Search Engines and Search bots
You don’t want a dozen search engines, do you? You want a single search engine that delivers three key features:- Relevant results
- Uncluttered, easy to read and navigate user interface
- Helpful options to broaden or tighten a search
1. Search Engines
Google.com has become the most widely used search engine on the Internet. Other top engines include:
- Yahoo.com
- Ask.com
- Bing.com
2. Search Crawler
Search engine optimization is aimed at understanding how crawlers work and what they look for, to determine the importance and ranking of certain sites. The idea is to then implement SEO marketing strategies that will fill websites with the kind of information that the crawlers will determine to be of high value.
Crawlers are on the lookout for sites that are rich with the kinds of keywords that people search for, and sites that contain those keywords in high density are seen as being more relevant, and thus will be awarded high rankings. However, crawlers also gather other information important in determining rankings, including link population information and filenames structure.
There are several SEO tools to help you better understand crawlers and how they work. The Google keyword tool is a good place to start.
The Google crawler, known as Googlebot, is particularly active, and will often visit a website several times a day, checking for updates or new information. Studies have shown that it is much more active than other crawlers, the closest being the Yahoo crawler, which is about half as active as Googlebot .
3. Search Bots
So, What is a Bot Exactly?
Imagine texting a number to order pizza and having it delivered without ever talking to a real human. That’s what bots are all about. Specifically, a bot is an application that performs an automated task. Such as setting an alarm, telling you the weather or searching online.
Siri and Cortana are bots, as was Microsoft’s Clippy and AOL Instant Messenger’s SmarterChild. Bots are everywhere in technology, ranging from malicious bots that come with a virus to search engine spiders that crawl the Internet looking for new Web pages to add. In this context, we’re talking about chatbots, which can hold a conversation with you to accomplish a task.
What Can Search Bots Do?
Many bots are programmed to act like humans when you talk to them so it feels like asking a person for help instead of just typing in a search engine.
Where Can I Find searchBots?
Are searchBots the Future?
Instead of having many different apps on your phone, you could have one with multiple bots. that can help with different tasks, like ordering food or checking sports scores.
It’s a good argument, but apps aren’t going anywhere soon. What we’re more likely to see in the future are smarter bots at home (like Amazon’s Alexa), on our phones and in our car that will help automate our lives.
